Identity Theft: Myths and Realities

Every day new forms of Identity Theft and related scams are reported. This workshop helps you avoid and better understand this pervasive crime while giving you resources that will help you recover from ID Theft. Discussion topics include: defining, testing your knowledge, protecting against fraud, reviewing case histories, and tips on how to recover.

Identity Theft Victims: Regaining My Identity

Offers a group setting in which Identity Theft Victims will have the opportunity to share their situation as part of the recovery process.  The instructor will inform the class participants of the complete remediation process and explain the necessary documents, phone numbers and websites to begin the process of restoring their identity and ultimately resolving the situation.

red02_next.gifProtect your Social Security number.  Don't carry your Social Security card in your wallet or write your Social Security number on a check.  Give it out only if absolutely necessary or ask to use another identifier.

red02_next.gifDon't give out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or over the Internet unless you know who you are dealing with.

red02_next.gifNever Click on links sent in unsolicited emails; instead, type in a web address you know.  use firewalls, anti-spyware, and anti-virus software to protect your home computer; keep them up-to-date.  Visit OnGuardOnline.gov for more information.
